It's pretty common for job seekers to be turned down for jobs because they're overqualified. Sometimes, employers use "overqualified" to get around laws forbidding them to disqualify candidates on the basis of race, gender, sexual preference, etc. Other times, it's because candidates are overqualified for the positions at hand.
