Cheaper Not Always Better With Home Insurance

A couple years ago, I decided to switch my homeowners' insurance over to the same company that carries my auto insurance.  I figured one company, one bill - and it might just save me a bunch of hard-earned cash in the process.  Truth was, it did save me some money.  It saved me a lot of money, in fact.  But over the past six months, I'm wondering if the savings are worth the pain.

Here's what I mean: since I pay my homeowners' insurance separate from my mortgage, I need to make sure the mortgage company has my insurance rider.  Six months ago, I got a letter from the bank telling me that they had not received said paperwork, that their records indicated that the insurance policy had expired, and they were going to switch me over to their own insurance - which would have been much more.  I called both the insurance and mortgage companies and straightened it out.  And I thought everything was set.  Until I got another letter from my bank two months later telling me the same thing they told me two months earlier.  Finally, after much hassle, it appears that the matter is cleared up.

Because of this hassle, I've been shopping around for other home insurance.  HomeInsurance.com seems to be a good company to help me in my quest because it can help me search for not just the best home insurance rate, but the best deal.  That's important because - as I found out - the cheapest policy isn't necessarily the best deal.

HomeInsurance.com is also a great site for first-time homeowners, too.  If, for instance, you're not entirely sure what your home insurance will and will not cover, or why you need it in the first place, then you can read up on it.  It's also a great site to go to if you don't know how to shop for homeowners' insurance (it's not as easy - nor as confusing - as you might think).

I'll probably be ending my hassle-filled relationship with my current insurance company.  Luckily, HomeInsurance.com can help me find a good price and a great deal.
