RESUMES: Resume Blogs
But what should your resume blog be? Here are a few things you should consider placing on your resume blog:
Regular updates. Blogs that are
not updated on a regular basis don't usually have high page rank.
That is to say, they don't show up well in search results. So, if
you're going to update on a regular basis, then you should have
something to say, right? Since this is your resume blog, you'll want
to keep it career-focused. Blog about your industry. You should
also write about your career and your accomplishments on your resume
blog, too. Your resume blog doesn't have to be extremely formal (you
can show some personality), but you'll want to keep your resume blog
free of snarkiness or speaking ill of past employers.
About me. The point of a resume
blog, other than attracting employers' interest, is to tell employers
a little about you. On a resume blog, it makes sense to provide a
prose version of your resume. A few short paragraphs about your
career will work in this case. The most effective way to write your
“About Me” page is by starting with the most impressive
experience, then the second most impressive, then the third. Then
stop. Your resume blog should build interest in you and give
employers reasons to continue exploring your resume blog. It's also
a good idea, in you “About Me” section, to include a link to
your...
Resume. Well, it is
a resume blog, after all. It's a good idea to provide several links
to your resume on your resume blog so potential employers can get
your resume in the format they want. Your resume should be viewable
(sans address and phone number) in employers' browsers. It's also a
good idea to make your resume downloadable in Word and PDF, too.
Place a link to your resume(s) high in your sidebar, on your “About
Me” page, and, for good measure, at the bottom of every post on
your resume blog.
IN THE CARAVAN: Update your resume blog frequently, provide an “About Me” section, and be sure your resume is easy to view and download.
