Q & A: Where the Jobs Are
Q: Things are depressed in my corner of the country. I'm single and don't have any family responsibilities, so I'm thinking about moving. What part of the country has the most jobs available?
A: That's a loaded question. The thing is, all areas of the U.S. have jobs available. But not all areas of the country have all types of jobs available.
Now, you didn't mention what kind of work you do. Surprisingly, that's a good thing, because now we can look at ways for all types of workers to determine what part(s) of the country has the jobs they're looking for.
There are a few ways to determine what parts of the country are hot for your specific occupation. Readers of The Daily Machete are strongly encouraged to check out ProjectionsCentral and the State Occupational Projections portion of their site. Not only can you determine where your occupation is hot now, but where it will be hot in the future, as well.
Another fantastic resource for job seekers searching for an occupation-friendly geography is the U.S. Dept of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics page. There, you can download and view the Occupational Outlook Handbook, Occupational Employment Statistics, as well as look at Wages by Area and Occupation.
IN THE CARAVAN: To determine where your occupation is in demand, check out Projections Central and the U.S. DOL’s Labor Statistics page.
