ADDING VALUE: Mid-Year Skills Improvements II: Taking the Next Steps
In last Wednesday's post, we looked at a few ways to improve basic, yet essential skills employers covet in prospective employees. These skills - such as typing, Word and Excel working knowledge, leadership chops and the ability to speak well - make up a basic skill set that is the foundation for professional success.
But what if you've already followed the advice in last Wednesday's post? What are the next steps?
Well, now it’s time for full disclosure. If you’ve read The Daily Machete for any length of time, then you probably realize I try to provide you, the reader, with advice based on my human resources/placement/job search experience. I also conduct a fair bit of research to stay abreast on the latest work search developments and techniques. Sometimes this research is online, sometimes not.
I had, in fact, planned to provide you with some great ways to further build upon your professional skills. The piece was well-researched and well written.
But then I saw this piece on autodidactism (10 Ways to Become a Self Taught Master) in my RSS reader from the Dumb Little Man blog yesterday. It has tons of links to valuable resources designed to beef up your skills – and on the cheap, too.
Don’t you just hate when somebody beats you to the punch like that?
Anyhoo…In lieu of posting my piece (I’ll hold that for another time), I’m instead strongly suggesting you check out yesterday’s Dumb Little Man post by Leo Babuata, then come on back tomorrow to catch the more free daily job search advice from The Daily Machete.
