JibberJobber. Hardly anyone uses a paper-based network tracking system anymore. Most have at least moved on to using spreadsheets. Smart networkers - the really efficient ones - have started using JibberJobber. You can keep track of all of your job search information, including where you've applied, the jobs you've applied for, the status of each job and which resume you sent where. The free service was already a good deal when it allowed seekers to keep track of an impressive 75 contacts - but that number just got bumped up to a WHOPPING 250!!! And yes - you read that right - it's free!
Guerilla Marketing for Job Hunters. This blog is jam-packed with job hunting goodies. Reading the 12 Days of Christmas Job Hunting
on this blog should be mandatory reading for anyone looking for work -
no matter what time of year it is. Be sure to either bookmark the blog
and/or subscribe to its feed - just like you've done with The Daily Machete. One of the best sites out there for job seekers.
LinkedIn. Millions of professionals use this networking website. They may be looking for employees, products or...well, just about anything. Once you've made contact with someone, you'll be able to contact anyone in the other's contact list. In this way, your network can (and probably will) grow exponentially. Check out your new contacts' profiles and make contact with them electronically. Just be sure to follow proper networking etiquette.
CyberSluething has a great post about building your LinkedIn network. A must read for every job seeker serious about cybernetworking effectively.
ItzBig Blog's tag line, "Serving the Unserved - Recruiters, Job Seekers, Quiet Working Professionals," is appropriate because, well, it serves all three categories. Recruiters can get a glimpse of what job seekers are doing, thinking and learning. Job seekers can get a peek at recruiters' mentalities. The job search advice is dead on - a great companion to The Daily Machete.
CogMap. Is a good wiki site destined to be great. You can view and edit corporate organization charts of large and small companies online. While it's still young, it sports an already impressive amount of charts. More charts are sure to be added, meaning the closely-guarded company contacts will be made public, thereby helping job seekers reach the right contact person.
Eccentric Employment.
Look - we're not all traditional workers. While some thrive on wearing
ties, others view that piece of neck wear as a noose. If you're looking
for gigs just a little outside the norm (e.g. working on a Hawaiian
beach, termite reinspector, etc.), Eccentric Jobs is the place to look.
George's Employment Blawg. George Lenard is a St. Louis labor and employment lawyer. In his blog (or "blawg" - get it? b-LAW-g?), he looks at HR, labor law and today's workplace. He poses interesting questions, offers useful information and analyzes breaking workforce legal news. The Blawg also sports an impressive blogroll categorized into work- and work search-related topics to help you find the info or source you need in just a few clicks. Bookmark the Blawg today!
Indeed Jobs. This blog is (in part) Sponsored by Indeed Jobs. Why? It's a great service. Here's why: it scours thousands (yes, thousands) of job sites so you don't have to visit them all individually. Type in a search term and a location and it will hit the all of the job sites you've ever heard of - and thousands (yes, THOUSANDS) of others. It also draws jobs from company websites, too. Is it any wonder why we're Sponsored by Indeed Jobs? Take it for a test run by using the search box on this page. You'll never use another site to dig up leads!
Salary Search.
Part of Indeed.com, this free beta product is awesome. While other
sites offer basic salary guidelines, Salary Search lets you determine a particular skill's market value in a particular geography. How much should you be making? Use Salary Search to find out.
SpotDJ won't help you find work - it's just for fun. Anybody who
owns an iPod - or will own one before the Holidays are over - will love this site. Recently mentioned in Rolling Stone
and The Wall Street Journal, SpotDJ allows you to download "spots" and
incorporate them into your play lists so you have a radio-like
listening experience - but without commercials. These "spots" are
recorded by people just like you and provide tidbits about the songs
and artists. You can record spots, too! It's free and easy to use.
This is totally cool!
