INTERVIEWING: Nabbing a Second Interview
Sometimes you know before leaving the initial interview that you'll be called back for a second. The hiring manager will tell you. If that's the case, you know you aced your first meeting.
Congrats!
Here are few more ideas on how to nab a second interview:
Ask for one. Sometimes the simplest solutions are the best. If you want something, there's nothing wrong in asking for it. Balance your confidence and enthusiasm with restraint and professionalism and you'll have a winning combination.
Follow up. Sometimes you won't get a firm answer from the hiring manager because s/he may not know if you're going to make the next cut or not. In cases like this, your follow up can be the deciding factor. Some information in this piece on follow up can be used (though it's about after the second interview, the information is still quite valid).
Be kind to Sally. Sally is the hiring manager's office manager and right-hand person. Sally runs the show. The hiring manager will talk to Sally about the endless parade of job prospects who've come in for interviews. If you win Sally over as an ally, odds are you'll have a second interview.
If you have any ways to help nab a second interview, be sure to leave a comment for others to read!
IN THE CARAVAN: To help nab a second interview, be sure to ask for one, follow up and be kind to Sally.
